Disclaimers

Please note: You must be prepared for cold weather (0 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit is typical) throughout this tour. Winter jackets and boots are provided if you do not have your own. The aurora is weather and solar flare dependent - it takes clear skies and active solar activity combined to make for a great viewing experience.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Fly into Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, where a hosted lunch awaits to kick off your adventure. Afterward, check into the elegant Captain Cook Hotel. Don’t worry if you’re not fully outfitted for the Alaskan winter – warm parkas and boots are provided for the duration of your stay at no extra cost. Captain Cook Hotel – 2 nights (L)

Day 2

This morning take a scenic drive along the Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic byways in the United States! This all-American road will be a highlight today as we travel between the ocean and the towering Chugach Mountains. We will explore the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a 200-acre animal rescue and rehabilitation center for Alaskan wildlife. Here we will meet moose, wood bison, musk ox herd, caribou herd, and other Alaskan animals that call the Portage Glacier Valley home.  (L)

Day 3

Travel to the charming town of Talkeetna, the inspiration for the TV show "Northern Exposure" and the starting point for Denali climbers. At the homestead of Iditarod Champion Dallas Seavey, discover what it takes to compete in the "Last Great Race". Tour the kennel and experience an exhilarating dog sled ride through the Alaskan wilderness, pulled by champion sled dogs. Tonight, enjoy a fascinating Aurora Borealis presentation by the Star Lady. Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge - 2 nights (L)

Day 4

Awaken to panoramic views of the Alaska Range and with luck, a glimpse of Denali, North America's tallest peak. Spend the day in Talkeetna with a local storyteller who will share insights about life in this unique mountain town. The afternoon is yours to explore, shop for local crafts or visit the historical museum. (D)

Day 5

Board the Alaska Railroad for a magical winter train journey through snow-covered wilderness, disembarking near Denali National Park before continuing to Fairbanks by motorcoach. After settling into Pike’s Waterfront Lodge, head to a secluded spot far from city lights to witness the Aurora Borealis dance across the sky. NOTE: The aurora is weather and solar flare dependent – it takes clear skies and active solar activity combined to make for a great viewing experience.  Pike's Waterfront Lodge- 3 nights (L)

Day 6

Enjoy a leisurely morning. In the afternoon, explore the University of Alaska’s Museum of the North for a fascinating look at Arctic culture, science, and art. Then marvel at the dazzling creations of the BP World Ice Art Championships, where enormous blocks of ice are sculpted into intricate masterpieces. Tonight, venture out once again in search of the Northern Lights. (D)

Day 7

Another relaxed morning before visiting the legendary Trans-Alaska Pipeline and stopping in the whimsical town of North Pole, Alaska, where it’s Christmas year-round. Shop for unique holiday treasures before enjoying a farewell dinner at a historic local restaurant. Tonight marks your final opportunity to view the aurora, with Fairbanks offering an impressive 90% chance of sightings over a three-night stay.  (D)

Day 8

Bid Alaska a fond farewell as you depart Fairbanks International Airport for home, carrying with you unforgettable photographs, stories and memories of your adventures in the Arctic.
