Seattle, Tacoma & Mount Rainier National Park

Day 1

Arrive in Seattle after a morning flight from Sacramento. First stop is for an early lunch at Anthony's on the waterfront in Des Moines, near the airport. The dazzling Museum of Glass in Tacoma is our afternoon attraction. Your visit includes the opportunity to create your own personal souvenir and learn about the art of glass blowing. Your accommodation are among the city's finest. Hotel Murano - 2 nights (L,D)

Day 2

A day of adventure awaits. First stop, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. This 72-acre facility is home to black and grizzly bears, grey wolves, bald eagles, cougars, bobcats, and more. Ride through the park on an electric tram, giving you the opportunity to experience the "residents" up close. Continuing east, enter Mt. Rainier National Park. The mountain is part of the Cascades chain, a volcanic set of peaks that is still active (think Mt. St. Helens). Our guide will get you off the coach and show you some of the park's flora and fauna. Enjoy lunch at the Paradise Lodge before heading back to Tacoma. (FB,L)

Day 3

Drive north this morning to Seattle. Famous Pike Place Market is a great place to find fresh fruits and other treats. There is also a good representation of local crafts. Across the street is the original Starbuck's Coffee Store. While we are downtown, you'll want to walk through Dale Chihuly Gardens. If you wish, you can also visit the Space Needle next door. After lunch at Ivar's Salmon House, the Seattle Aquarium is up next - so big it's housed in two separate buildings. The aquarium offers walk-through exhibits and shows to help you learn about the residents. We'll have a suggested itinerary for you to help you make the most of your time. The Cedarbrook Lodge - 2 nights (FB,L)

Day 4

A narrated tour of The Emerald City awaits this morning. Founded in 1852, the oldest part of the city is Pioneer Square. Learn about the early settlers and the native Americans who inhabited this land long before the white man came. (The city is named for Chief Seattle.) A great fire nearly destroyed the city in 1889, causing the "new" buildings to be mostly brick and stone. The tallest building west of the Mississippi was built here in 1914 and named for a guy who made typewriters. Did you know there is another city underground? You'll get to explore that a bit today. We have also included a harbor cruise, so you can enjoy a different view of the city. (FB,D)

Day 5

Enjoy the views on a short, guided walk in Discovery Park this morning. At Boeing's Future of Flight facility, you'll get to see the assembly line and watch planes being built. Then it's off to the airport for your return flight home, arriving 5-6 pm. (FB)
