Daily Itinerary
Day 1
Fly to Louisville, then it's about a 75-mile drive to the heart of Kentucky Bluegrass Country. Here we'll explore the traditions that have made Lexington synonymous with Thoroughbred racing. The Campbell House - 3 nights (D)
Day 2
A visit to legendary Claiborne Farm takes us behind the scenes to one of America's most celebrated horse farms, followed by a guided tour of Lexington and a visit to the Mary Todd Lincoln House. (FB,L)
Day 3
The day begins at beautiful Keeneland Racecourse, where we'll watch the morning workouts and tour one of the most prestigious racing venues in the country. Later, the Kentucky Horse Park brings the commonwealth's equestrian heritage to life through its horses, exhibits, and attractions. (FB,D)
Day 4
It's time to follow another great Kentucky tradition - the Bourbon Trail. We'll visit a local distillery before making our way towards Louisville and the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, our first stop. After lunch at stylish Proof on Main, we continue to one of the most famous sporting venues in America: Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. We'll tour the grounds and visit the Kentucky Derby Museum before checking into our historic hotel home. Brown Hotel - 2 nights (FB,L)
Day 5
A guided Louisville tour introduces us to this colorful river city before we enjoy an elegant high tea and light lunch at the Conrad-Caldwell House. Then Comes the event that inspired the "Booms" in our tour title, Thunder Over Louisville.One of the signature celebrations of the Kentucky Derby Festival, Thunder Over Louisville combines an exciting air show with a spectacular nighttime fireworks display along the Ohio River. We'll enjoy dinner before taking in the grand finale, with one of the largest annual fireworks shows in the country. (FB,HT,D)
Day 6
Before heading for home, we'll cap off our Kentucky adventure with visits to two favorites, the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and the Frazier History Museum. (FB)
Bonus! After the trip is over participants are invited to a Derby Party held at a local eatery to watch the race after a nice dinner. We may even have a prize for the person(s) that are lucky enough to make the winning pick! Save the date - May 1st.
