Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Take a morning flight bound for Reagan National Airport. From this in-town location it’s only a short drive to your hotel – a welcomed relief after a long day of travel! Hilton Hotel Arlington – 5 nights

Day 2

Embark on a comprehensive city tour with a local guide who will spin tales of Washington’s dynamic past and present while orienting you to the Mall (important for when you have free time for Smithsonian and National Museums). You’ll see countless National Monuments, impressive governmental buildings, and the expansive parks and public spaces that make Washington, DC the striking city it is. (FB,L)

Day 3

Begin your exploration of the Smithsonian Institution and National Museums with a full day on the Mall. Your coach will operate “shuttle style” to facilitate easy movement and breaks. “D.C. After Dark” features selected beautifully illuminated monuments and the Kennedy Center after dinner. (FB,D)

Day 4

A morning visit to Arlington National Cemetery includes a narrated tram tour with stops at the Tomb of the Unknowns for the Changing of the Guard ceremony and the home of General & Mrs. Robert E. Lee—no, that’s not a mausoleum on the hill! You have options in the afternoon: Visit the estate of George and Martha Washington, Mount Vernon, or you might choose the new National Museum of the US Army located nearby. Tonight, dinner at Filomena Ristorante in Georgetown is a Sports Leisure favorite and sure to please. (FB,D)

Day 5

Memorial Day offers a host of opportunities along our National Mall. Start the day with a visit to Ford’s Theatre and the Petersen House to relive President Lincoln’s final days. A new interpretative center offers insight into this turbulent time in American history. From there your choices begin. Take your place along Constitution Avenue for the National Memorial Day Parade or use the time to continue your exploration of the Smithsonian Institution and National Museums. (FB,D)

Day 6

A guided tour of the United States Capitol brings your time in DC to a monumental end. From here we’re off to Biden Country – Wilmington, Delaware – but it would be difficult to pass through Maryland without a quick stop for crab cakes, don’t you think? A visit to the Biden Welcome Center will acquaint you with #46, his family and his long association with the Wilmington area. Your hotel is located in the heart of downtown and features all-suite accommodations. Sheraton Suites Wilmington Downtown – 2 nights (FB,L)

Day 7

With a local guide trace the footsteps of “Amtrak Joe” starting appropriately enough at the train station that now bears his name. In downtown Wilmington see other iconic Biden sites such as the Chase Center where he announced his presidential election victory and The Queen where his transition team worked before the move to DC. In nearby Greenville you’ll visit St. Joseph on the Brandywine, the Biden’s Church. Tonight dinner is served in one of Joe and Jill’s favorites. (FB,D)

Day 8

A short drive to Philadelphia brings your Memorial Day expedition to an end. (FB)
