Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive into Portland and head to the historic waterfront for dinner. Sample local sweet treats, a Whoopie Pie washed down with a Moxie Soda. You’re now an honorary Mainer! Hilton Garden Inn Portland Downtown Waterfront – 2 nights (D)

Day 2

Drive through Portland’s historic neighborhoods with stops at the Portland Head and Nubble Lighthouses. In Ogunquit, meaning “Beautiful Place by the Sea,” take time for a bite of lunch before exploring the village. Shop the many boutiques or take a relaxing stroll along the seaside walkway with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Tour Kennebunkport and see the Bush Family compound at Walker’s Point. Dinner tonight is truly a Portland experience. Served in a trendy bowling alley it’s both entertaining and tasty. Set ‘em up and knock ‘em down. Strike! (FB,D)

Day 3

At Pineland Farms, tour the equestrian center before lunch on your own at their market featuring local ingredients. Continue to the mountain village of Bethel stopping at the Maine Balsam Fir Factory. The fragrant wood is used in a wide array of items. Make your own balsam souvenir bag! After checking into your mountainside resort, join a guided moose-viewing expedition and relax by a crackling campfire. Dinner is included at your resort tonight. Day 4

The Maine Capitol Building in Augusta is first today. Explore the state museum’s exhibits showcasing the lumbering, lobstering and ship building industries. Pause for lunch in Bangor en route to Bar Harbor. Peruse the Abbe Museum’s extensive collection of historical and cultural artifacts of the four Native American tribes in the region. Tonight’s dinner is a traditional Maine Lobster bake! Bring your appetite and camera to capture the moment the lid is raised revealing a colorful feast! Non-seafood items also available. Day 5

Wake up aside the calm and stillness of Frenchman’s Bay, and set sail aboard a lobster boat for a glimpse into the lobster industry. Back in Bar Harbor, enjoy some of New England’s best restaurants, each offering a one-of-kind experience before touring Acadia National Park with a local guide. Climb to the top of Cadillac Mountain for sweeping coastal views, hear the roar of crashing waves at Thunder Hole and revel in the quiet beauty of the inland scenery. This evening, after a dinner overlooking the bay, attend “The Olympics of the Forest,” a lumberjack logging show full of brawn and laughter. (FB,D)

Day 6

Slow down in charming Camden nestled beside Penobscot Bay. Lunch is on your own with time to meander through town. Rockland is home to the Maine Lighthouse Museum housing a unique collection of U.S. Coast Guard artifacts. Get a feel for lighthouse culture on a guided tour. Next stop, prison! Yes, you read that correctly. At the Maine Prison Showroom, scoop up great bargains on wood products handcrafted by inmates. Dinner is included before checking into your hotel. Day 7

Shipbuilding is big business here and dates from the 1600s to present day. The Maine Maritime Museum’s hands on exhibits and shipbuilding demonstrations are explained during your tour. L.L. Bean’s flagship sporting goods store is located in Freeport Village. There is also an outlet store for bargain hunters! After lunch on your own, make the short drive to the Portland International Jetport for your return flight. You can safely say that you have experienced the best of Maine! (FB)
