Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Dine on Portland’s scenic waterfront. If you’ve not heard of Whoopie Pies and Moxie Soda, you will. When in Maine, do as the Mainers do! Hilton Garden Inn Portland Downtown Waterfront – 2 nights (D)

Day 2

Portland is a collection of historic neighborhood. Get postcard-worthy pictures at Portland Head and Nubble Lighthouses. Grab some lunch and shop in Ogunquit, the “Beautiful Place by the Sea.” Shop the many boutiques and stroll along the seaside walkway with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Kennebunkport may sound familiar. The Bush Family compound, once home to George and Barbara, is here at Walker’s Point. Portland is a little kooky, so dinner is in a trendy bowling alley serving way more than just nachos and chili dogs. Strike! (FB,D)

Day 3

Tour the Equestrian Center at Pineland Farm. Local ingredients are featured at their café.  The Maine Balsam Fir Factory is in the mountain village of Bethel. The fragrant wood is used in a wide array of items that, naturally, you can buy! Join a guided moose-viewing trek and relax by a crackling campfire at your mountain resort. Jordan Grand Hotel at Sunday River (FB,D)

Day 4

At the Maine Capitol you’ll find a museum showcasing the lumbering, lobstering and ship building industries. Pause for lunch in Bangor en route to Bar Harbor. Peruse the Abbe Museum’s extensive collection of historical and cultural artifacts focused on the region’s four Native American tribes. Tonight’s dinner is a traditional Maine Lobster bake! Don those bibs and get to cracking! Non-seafood items also available. Atlantic Oceanside Resort – 2 nights (FB,L,D)

Day 5

Sip coffee in your room by the calm waters of Frenchman’s Bay. Then sail aboard a lobster boat to gain an understanding of the industry, but I’m not kissing no lobster! Back in Bar Harbor enjoy some of New England’s best restaurants, and create your own dining experience before touring Acadia National Park with a local guide. Climb to the top of Cadillac Mountain for sweeping coastal views, hear booming waves at Thunder Hole and revel in the quiet beauty of the inland scenery. After a dinner overlooking the bay, attend “The Olympics of the Forest,” a lumberjack logging show full of brawn and laughter. (FB,D)

Day 6

Charming Camden atop Penobscot Bay may look familiar to you. It’s been the setting for many popular TV shows and movies. The Maine Lighthouse Museum presents a unique collection of U.S. Coast Guard artifacts. Next stop, prison! Yes, you read that correctly. At the Maine Prison Showroom, buy friends wood products handcrafted by inmates. That’s a conversation starter! Hampton Inn – Bath (FB,D)

Day 7

Shipbuilding is big business here and dates from the 1600s to present day. The Maine Maritime Museum’s hands-on exhibits and shipbuilding demonstrations are explained. L.L. Bean’s flagship store is located in Freeport Village. Your tour guide also knows where the outlet store is hidden! Next stop: Portland International Jetport for your return flight knowing you have experienced the absolute best of Maine! (B)
