Daily Itinerary
Day 1
Take a morning flight bound for Reagan National Airport. From this in-town location it’s only a short drive to your hotel – a welcomed relief after a long day of travel! Hilton Hotel Arlington – 6 nights
Day 2
Embark on a comprehensive city tour with a local guide who will spin tales of Washington’s dynamic past and present while orienting you to the Mall (important for when you have free time for Smithsonian and National Museums). You’ll see countless National Monuments, impressive governmental buildings, and the expansive parks and public spaces that make Washington, DC the striking city it is. (FB,L)
Day 3
Begin your exploration of the Smithsonian Institution and National Museums with a full day on the Mall. Your coach will operate “shuttle style” to facilitate easy movement and breaks. (FB)
Day 4
Visit the estate of George and Martha Washington, Mount Vernon, beautifully situated on a high bluff overlooking the Potomac. The gardens and museums are equally impressive. Nearby the National Museum of the United States Army opened in late 2020 in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. This is the first comprehensive and truly national museum to capture, display, and interpret over 245 years of Army history, bringing to life the story of the US soldier in times of war and peace. (FB,L)
Day 5
Start Memorial Day with a visit to Ford’s Theatre and the Petersen House to relive President Lincoln’s final days. An adjoining interpretative center offers insight into this turbulent time in American history. Then take your place along Constitution Avenue for the National Memorial Day Parade. (FB, D)
Day 6
A morning visit to Arlington National Cemetery includes a narrated tram tour with stops at the Tomb of the Unknowns for the Changing of the Guard ceremony and the home of General & Mrs. Robert E. Lee. No, that's not a mausoleum on the hill! Use the afternoon to continue your exploration of the Smithsonian Institution and National Museums on the Mall. Dinner at Filomena Ristorante in Georgetown is a Sports Leisure favorite and sure to please. Tonight, "D.C. After Dark" features selected beautifully illuminated monuments and visit to the Kennedy Center. (FB, D)
Day 7
A guided tour of the United States Capitol brings your vacation to a monumental end. (FB)
