Southern California Presidents
Southern California is host to two of our nation’s presidential libraries. In this quick getaway vacation, visit both the Richard M. Nixon and the Ronald Reagan Libraries. The Huntington Library, repository for rare and exquisite works is an added attraction.
We take a late morning flight to Southern California arriving in time for lunch at world-famous Philippe’s “French Dipped Sandwich” shop.
Then a short drive to Yorba Linda and visit the Richard M. Nixon Library and Museum which features 22 unique venues that tell the story of the Nixon Presidency. The library is filled with multimedia and interactive exhibits, plus several permanent galleries in the “Wave of Change” which covers a period of great upheaval throughout the 1960’s and during the months leading up to the November 1968 presidential election. The journey through his story ends with Richard Nixon’s post-presidency period and his contributions as elder statesman, and his impact on American culture. Check into your hotel. Then it’s off to dinner at the White House, the Anaheim White House Restaurant, that is. The Anaheim White House is a long-time Sports Leisure favorite. LA Hilton North/Glendale –
The next day, visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library perched on a 300 acre mountaintop site with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, valleys and the Pacific Ocean, this is truly one of California’s most beautiful and unique destinations. After a library tour we will have our lunch under the wings of Air Force One.
On our last day we will visit the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. The main gallery showcases some of the world’s rarest books and manuscripts including: the Gutenberg Bible, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and first editions and manuscripts by authors such as William Blake, Jack London, Alexander Pope, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, and William Wordsworth. Have a quick lunch at the LA Farmers’ Market prior to a later afternoon flight.
