Daily Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Portland after your early morning flight. Visit the Vancouver Farmer's Market for a healthy snack (cherries and strawberries are already in season). It's a great way to get a feel for the "flavors" of the region and the people who live here.
Your motorcoach takes you on a short drive up the Columbia to The Columbia Gorge Hotel. Part of the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel has stood here for nearly a 100 years. Have brunch and take time to walk around the grounds to enjoy the gardens of this historic property. Learn more about the river, its geology and its place in American History at the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center. Our accommodations for 3 nights are in rooms with a view of the Columbia at the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn. (BR)
Day 2
Leaving after breakfast, we travel east in our coach and following the Columbia. Cross to the Washington side of the river and stop at the Maryhill Museum of Art. How could something this remarkable be so far from anything? Originally intended as a mansion home for entrepreneur Samuel Hill, it’s a museum with an eclectic collection. Nearby is a replica of the original Stonehenge. Pause to enjoy lunch and sample some local wines before heading back down the Columbia. A dinner shuttle into Hood River is available this evening. (FB,L)
Day 3
The town of Hood River is a quaint little village. The hillsides produce a hoard of berries in early summer and now, the crowds have died down and fall is around the corner. All aboard the Mount Hood Railroad for a ride to Parkdale, in the shadow of the mountain. Let's visit one or two of the berry stands as we make our way back. Tonight, a dinner cruise on the Columbia River. (FB,L,D)
Day 4
Enjoy a leisurely morning at the hotel. On the way to the airport, make a stop at magnificent Multnomah Falls for pictures and a dose of "waterfall mist." Arrive in Sacramento about 7pm. (FB)
