Paul Gauguin: A Spiritual Journey and Jewels of the Maharajas

Overview

De Young and Legion of Honor Museums in San Francisco

Details

Begin the day with the first exhibition dedicated to the works of artist Paul Gauguin at the de Young. Comprised of more than fifty paintings, wood carvings, and ceramics on loan for the first time in San Francisco, Gauguin: A Spiritual Journey presents these pieces alongside his works from the Fine Arts Museums’ permanent collections. Exploring relationships with his wife, other artists, and people he encountered, the exhibit shows how these experiences shaped his imagination and spiritual journey in his work.

In the afternoon, we visit the Legion of Honor for East Meets West: Jewels of the Maharajas. Featuring more than 150 unique pieces made in India and Europe for emperors, maharajas, and their courts, these objects include jewelry, swords, and precious works of art featuring sparkling forms of diamonds, jewels, and European enameling.  For your enrichment, the accompanying audio guides are included for both exhibits.

Lunch is on your own at either of the museum cafes.

We do not share specific pickup information on our website, as we have found over the years that other travel groups tend to use our pickup points without ours or the property owner's permission, which reflects poorly on our company and hurts our ability to offer convenient pickup points to our clients. Accordingly, we ask that you not suggest our pickup points to other groups you travel with, as "the more the merrier" does not often apply to parking lots. Your understanding is appreciated.
