Daily Itinerary

Day 1

An early morning flight will have you in Portland in time to pick up some fresh berries and other treats at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market. Travel along the Columbia River, heading to the Pacific Coast. Your home is the city named for John Jacob Astor, Astoria. This was a hard-scrabble fishing port, home of the first U.S. Post Office west of the Rockies. Stop at the Astoria Column before checking in. Best Western Astoria (D)

Day 2

Over 200 years ago, the Lewis and Clark Party were among the first to map and explore this area. They ultimately decided on a spot south of the Columbia, naming it Fort Clatsop. Visit the reconstructed landmark, then continue on through the dairy community of Tillamook to Newport. It's a scenic drive along the coast! A light dinner of chowder and salad is offered this evening. Your accommodations are among our favorite. Every oversized room has a full, facing view of the ocean and the beach below is smooth and very "walker-friendly". Elizabeth Street Suites - 3nights (B,L,D)

Day 3

No trip to the coast is complete without a visit to a lighthouse, and Yaquina Head, north of Newport, is the perfect stop! Experience the life of the sea with a 2-hour cruise on the Discovery, learning about crab pots and the creatures who keep the bay and the ocean healthy. Grab lunch on your own on the waterfront. Tonight, weather permitting, we’ll have a bonfire on the beach. (B)

Day 4

Begin the day with a visit to the Oregon Aquarium. A shopping stop at Nye Beach is optional, as is a visit to the nearby village of Toledo. Fine dining on the waterfront tonight at Clearwater. (B,D)

Day 5

From Newport, drive inland to Eugene this morning. Lane County is home to 20 covered bridges. Your tour includes stops for photos and lunch is served al fresco on one of them! Hilton Eugene (B,L)

Day 6

Stop in Albany to visit a museum workshop where carousel horses are created. After years of work the carousel itself is now open for all to enjoy. Return to Portland for your flight home. (FB,L)
