Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Your South American adventure begins with a flight into Lima, Peru. Casa Andina, Lima – 2 nights

Day 2

Your local Peruvian guide will welcome you to this bustling metropolis and one of South America’s largest cities. The Plaza de Armas and the 16th century cathedral are at the very heart of old Lima Centro. During your stay, visit the Museo Larco collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museo de la Nacion, tracing the history of Peru’s ancient civilizations, as you explore the historical center of Lima’s vibrant daily life. (B)

Day 3

An early morning flight lifts you high into the mountains as you arrive in Cusco, the Capital City of the former Inca Empire. Your journey continues as you depart for the Sacred Valley, the fertile region that once fed the Inca Empire and sits at a lower altitude. Along the way, visit the Pisac Ruins for spectacular views as well as the famous Awankancha Museum where you will see a variety of camelids and learn about local textiles. The evening is spent acclimatizing and enjoying the pristine Andean surroundings. Hacienda Urubamba, Sacred Valley (B)

Day 4

Your Sacred Valley tour will include visits to the ancient circular agricultural terraces of Moray, the salt mines at Maras and the village of Ollantaytambo. Departing from Ollantaytambo, enjoy a scenic train ride through the Sacred Valley to the town of Machu Picchu for your overnight stay at Aguas Calientes. Sumaq, Machu Picchu (B,D)

Day 5

Uncover the secrets of Machu Picchu during a guided tour of the Incan citadel. You will visit the most important parts of the ruins, learning how and why they were constructed. You will have time to explore on your own, or sit back and enjoy the magic of Machu Picchu. The train returns you to Ollantaytambo where you will be transferred to your Cusco hotel. JW Marriott, Cusco – 2 nights (B,L)

Day 6

Though Machu Picchu was once an Inca royal retreat, Cusco was the beating heart of the Inca Empire. During a walking tour, explore this cobblestoned former capital city: walk among the massive stonework at Sacsayhuaman, marvel at Koricancha, and visit the cathedral on the main plaza.

Day 7-8

A mid-day flight from Cusco returns you to Lima. It is time to say farewell to the magic of Peru as your overnight flight lifts off from Lima, returning you to the States the next day. (B,D)
