Daily Itinerary

Blue LagoonDay 1-2

Arrive in Iceland after an overnight flight. After a welcome breakfast, visit the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most popular attractions – a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field. Pause for a refreshing swim before continuing Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik. Hotel Reykjavík Centrum – 2 nights (FB,D)

SeagullDay 3

This morning a short flight to the Westman Islands provides spectacular views. After arriving, cruise around the islands by boat. See colorful ocean caves and thousands of seabirds. Then explore the island by bus and see half-buried houses from the infamous 1973 volcanic eruption. The fascinating landscape teems with diverse bird and animal life, including one of the island’s biggest puffin colonies. (FB)

WaterfallDay 4

Visit famous Þingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two of the island’s spectacular waterfalls, Barnafoss and Hraunfossar, are nearby along with Deildatunguher, the most powerful hot spring in Iceland. Icelandair Hotel Hamar (FB,D)

Day 5

Our first morning stop will be at Grábrók, a volcanic crater. As it is possible to ascend Mt. Grábrók, here is a great opportunity for an easy and enjoyable hike. Afterwards, journey towards northern Iceland and to Akureyri, the second largest city on the island. Hotel KEA- 2 nights (FB,D)

Iceland 2Day 6

Enjoy a day of sightseeing on the way to Lake Mývatn. Discover the beautiful Goðafoss Waterfall, pseudo craters, and walk in the Dimmuborgir Lava Field. In the afternoon, enjoy a soak in the Myvant Nature Baths before returning to your hotel. (FB,D)

Day 7

Travel through the uninhabited highlands and moonlike surroundings to Egilsstaðir, the biggest town on the east side of the island. With some luck we might spot an Arctic fox or see reindeer on the way. Continuing from Egilsstaðir, admire the dramatic fjord landscapes. Overnight in the small fishing village of Djúpivogur. Hótel Framtíð (FB,D)

LakeDay 8

Jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon at the mouth of the Vatnajökull Glacier. Icebergs, the size of a football field, break off from the glacier and spill into the lagoon. During a boat tour, we’ll sail between the floating icebergs. Our next stop is Skaftafell National Park which offers a short hike to Svartifoss Waterfall, one of the most popular sites in the park. Hótel Klaustur (FB,D)

GlacierDay 9

Travel along the southern part of the Vatnajökull Glacier and spend time at Europe’s largest national park, which contains Iceland’s highest mountains and Europe’s largest glacier. The black lava beach of Reynisfjara near Vik is simply beautiful and is followed by a visit to Skogafoss Waterfall, one of the most impressive in the country. At the Eyjafjallajokull Information Center learn the challenges of living next to both a glacier and an active volcano. Our last stop of the day is the impressive Seljalandsfoss Waterfall where you can walk behind the falls! Hótel Selfoss. (FB,D)

Day 10

Return to Reykjavík this morning. Shop for a last minute souvenir and enjoy lunch before your journey home. (FB)
