Feel the Ocean Breeze, A Visit to Santa Barbara

Enjoy accommodations near the beach and a variety of sights in what is often referred to as "the American Riviera," Santa Barbara.

Thanks to its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, rich heritage, world-renowned food and wine scene, stunning natural beauty and the near-perfect weather, it's a favorite destination of many. Now, because of new non-stop service on Southwest, we can fly directly into Santa Barbara, making it perfect for a short getaway.  You'll stay three nights at the Mason Beach Inn, just steps from the ocean.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

On the first day, our noon departure from Sacramento brings us to the beach in time for a late lunch on Ocean Drive, followed by a short walking/driving tour of some of the beautiful homes.  You'll marvel at the architecture.  (L)

Day 2

Day Two brings a city tour with a knowledgeable local guide and even a Land and Sea adventure.  Our first tour might even include a sample of a local delicacy.  Now you've seen the city!  After a little down time (perhaps a walk near by or on the beach?) we'll catch an early dinner (and maybe a sunset) at another of the many eateries.  (B, D)

Day 3

Day Three sends us just a little over an hour north to the lovely Danish-style village of Solvang.  A favorite of SL Travelers for decades, Solvang is famous for bakeries, great shopping, great things bought at bakeries, wonderful restaurants, the smell of things made at bakeries, nice people and a host of local attractions.  Just make time to stop at one of the bakeries before you leave.  Or two.  Two is probably better.  (B, L)

What makes Solvang fun is its authenticity.  Founded in 1911, it hosts a summer Theaterfest, Danish Days and decorates wonderfully for Christmas.  Our visit includes a tour, time to shop and maybe even a short cooking lesson.  Back in Santa Barbara before the sun falls.  (B)

Day 4

Day Four and it's time to head home.  Because the non-stop home leaves at 10am, we are still developing this day.  To leave later in the day would mean making a connection, or going to Burbank.  Consider this a mystery day for now.  (B, L)
