Catalina Island, Take Two
A different itinerary on California's Island
Arrive in Southern California in time for an early lunch complete with views of the Queen Mary and Long Beach Harbor. Then we board the high speed ferry to Catalina "26 miles across the sea." Arrive and relax, you are officially on island time.
Originally opened in 1920, Hotel Atwater was the first hotel built under the direction of William Wrigley Jr. after he purchased the Catalina Island Company more than a century ago. He named the hotel in honor of Helen Atwater Wrigley, wife of his son Philip.
Completely renovated in 2019, this historic hotel stays true to the Wrigley family legacy with nostalgic elements like two splits of sparkling wine on arrival day - tribute to the bubbly Helen enjoyed every evening before bed. It's a cut above. Atwater Hotel - 3 nights (L)
A scenic tour of the island interior gets you acclimated for a day of adventure. In the afternoon we will have a private guided tour of El Rancho Escondido with wine tasting and a light lunch. Then this evening we will go to the iconic Casino and take in a movie. (L)
Choices, choices. Are you a spa day person who wants to relax and enjoy a facial or massage or do you want adventure with a zip line or kayak? Perhaps you'd like a day to explore Avalon on your own. There are lots of optional choices (cost not included) and we will help you make your choice(s). Perhaps even a traditional attraction or two. This evening we dine at Steve's Steakhouse. (D)
After a leisurely morning it's all aboard the ferry to return to the mainland. Arrive into Long Beach and make your way next door to San Pedro. An upscale lunch at marina-side restaurant is waiting for you. (L)
