Daily Itinerary
Day 1
Fly to Durango via Denver. En-route to Bluff, we will stop at the Four Corners Monument in the Navajo Nation. This is the only place in the country where four states meet. Our accommodations are in the new resort designed to blend in with the desert surroundings. Bluff Dwellings Resort – 3 nights (D)
Day 2
Valley of the Gods is a scenic hidden gem near Monument Valley. We will tour this area as well as other nearby scenic view points in 4x4 vehicles. At Goosenecks State Park impressive views are in store as the San Juan River twists and turns through a deep canyon. (FB,L,D)
Day 3
Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring images of the American West. It has been the site of countless western movies. Tour Monument Valley in four-wheel drive vehicles with Navajo guides. Secluded off-roads let you discover the restricted area in the backcountry of Monument Valley. You will also visit the famous places that once served as real-life backdrops for numerous movies such as Stagecoach, The Searchers and How The West Was Won. (FB,L)
Day 4
Today we travel through spectacular red rock scenery, through canyons, crossing the Colorado River at the start of Lake Powell, and stopping for photos along the way to our hotel in Torrey. Lunch is hosted with a special dessert before checking into the Capitol Reef Resort – 2 nights (FB, L)
Day 5
Spend the day touring Capitol Reef National Park by 4x4 vehicles. We will be traveling through an area called the Waterpocket Fold, a nearly 100-mile long warp in the Earth’s crust. Travel the famous Burr Trail, one of the most scenic backroads in America! On our drive home we traverse Boulder Mountain with its forests of evergreens, aspens and meadows, a stark contrast to the red rock desert landscape below. Maybe we will be lucky and get some fall foliage color. (FB,L)
Day 6
You have seen a beautiful part of our country that most tourists miss! It is time now to depart red rock country for Salt Lake City. Lunch is hosted before our flight back to Sacramento. (FB,L)
