British Columbia Bears and Wildlife

Overview

An amazing wildlife viewing adventure – this is an awesome wilderness experience with all the comforts. It provides a glimpse into the life of some of our continent’s most iconic animals… grizzly bears and bald eagles, and it’s just an absolutely fantastic good time!

Details

Glendale Cove in Knight Inlet is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly bears in British Columbia. With ample seafood and other food sources, these grizzlies are magnificent! During the fall salmon run, bears are observed from viewing platforms filling up on fresh salmon. Bring your cameras and binoculars for spectacular viewing! This is truly an incredible opportunity and a must on your bucket list if you are a nature enthusiast. This is a Sports Leisure Vacations exclusive as we are the only tour operator with premier fall viewing season access!

  • 3 nights at the Knight Inlet remote floating wilderness lodge in a comfortable room with private washroom and shower
  • 2 full days of guided wildlife viewing, including watching Grizzly Bears from nearby viewing platforms
  • Marine wildlife excursions as weather allows
  • Seaplane to/from Campbell River

Disclaimers

The Knight Inlet Lodge is a remote floating lodge in the wilderness, accessible only by seaplane or boat; and many activities include climbing into marine vessels or walking on uneven surfaces. For these reasons, you must be in stable physical condition, with good mobility. We do not recommend this tour for travelers with moderate to serious mobility issues. If you have questions or concerns, talk with Ramona before booking. Due to limited services in the remote areas we will be visiting, and the modes of transportation, you must be prepared to handle your own luggage at the airports and hotels. Space is limited, with only 5 rooms available for single occupancy.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Vancouver mid-day in time to catch another smaller plane for a quick hop over Georgia Strait. Arrive in Campbell River in the early evening and settle into your room. Comfort Inn Campbell River

Day 2-4

A morning seaplane flight delivers you deep into Knight Inlet for two and half days of immersion into the lives of the wildlife. Naturalists are on hand to answer all your questions, to direct your viewing experiences, and to provide evening conversation about the day’s sightings. Activities may include (weather permitting) excursions into Johnstone Strait for marine wildlife viewing, bald eagle and other birdlife viewing, and, of course, daily excursions by either boat or foot to watch the grizzlies. Daily schedules are arranged with optimum wildlife viewing in mind. Check out Knight Inlet Lodge on Facebook for weekly photos and updates. You will want to be there!

Accommodations include modest, yet comfortable rooms featuring queen-sized beds with private washrooms and showers. The dining room features fresh, local ingredients prepared in West Coast cuisine, included fine wines and decadent desserts. (The lodge will try to accommodate most dietary preferences, however, this is a remote lodge with limited storage. Please advise our staff at the time of reservation if you have dietary restrictions.) Knight Inlet Lodge – 3 nights (1B,2FB,3L,3D)

Day 5

Say goodbye to the lodge and wilderness as the seaplane arrives to return you to Vancouver Island. Spend the final evening in Nanaimo, the “Harbour City.” For the adventurous, go out and walk this picturesque harbor-side town in search of the perfect Nanaimo Bar (a local sweet, not an adult beverage establishment)! The Dorchester Best Western (FB,L)
