Beautiful Bodega Bay and The Coast

As you walk along Bodega Head, listen for the barking of the sea lions; and as you relax in your room, the sound of the fog horn. There is something special about the Sonoma Coast: beaches that stretch for miles, remnants of rocks forming striking sea stacks, and ah… the sound of the ocean. This leisurely visit to the coast allows you time to sit back and enjoy springtime on the coast.

  • Relax in comfort and enjoy the hospitality of Bodega Bay Lodge & Spa, overlooking Dorian Beach
  • Step back in time at Fort Ross, the Russian fur trading outpost
  • Dine at the historic Occidental Union Hotel
  • Stroll through the ancient giant redwoods at Armstrong State Woods

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Travel through Sonoma County to Santa Rosa for brunch at a Sports Leisure favorite, the Flamingo Hotel. After brunch, travel to Bodega Head to catch sight of the Pacific Ocean. Your hotel is one of the finest, four-diamond lodges in Northern California. Overlooking Dorian Beach, every room looks out over the gardens of the lodge towards the water. Bodega Bay Lodge & Spa – 2 nights (BR)

Day 2

This morning enjoy a drive up the Sonoma Coast, with stunning vistas and windswept prairies capturing the imagination, to the historic site of Fort Ross, one of the first European settlements in Northern California. Lunch is included at The Tides, a Sonoma Coast landmark. Return to the hotel for an afternoon of leisure… a full service spa awaits, along with a pool, hot tub, and bocce ball court; or maybe a walk to the beach is more your style. (FB,L)

Day 3

Retrace the road along the coast, catching another glimpse of the spectacular scenery, and then turn into the forest. Choose to join a docent-led stroll through the ancient giants of Armstrong Woods or perhaps just sit and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. A short drive from the park brings you to Occidental, a gem of a community tucked into the redwoods for an Italian meal served family-style. After a brief time to browse the quaint shops located in Occidental, return to Sacramento in the late afternoon. (FB,L)
