Day 1
Carey Transportation deliveres you to
the Sports Leisure office this morning.
Our drive down the valley brings us to
Reedley, a quaint community that still has that “main street” hometown feel. We’ll enjoy its hospitality after lunch and take an opportunity to stretch our legs a bit before heading into the mountains and the forest of giants. Arrive at Wuksachi Lodge in the late afternoon in time to prepare for
tonight’s BBQ out in the pines. The lodge is located in Sequoia National Park at 6900 foot elevation. Sleeping rooms are clean and comfortable with private baths, two queen beds, and coffee pots but no elevators. There is a nice restaurant and small gift shop in the main lodge which is in a separate building from the sleeping lodge. You will want to be sure to bring a flashlight, good walking shoes, and a light jacket for the evenings. Wuksachi Lodge – 2 nights (L,D) -
Day 2
Today you will travel across and through
two parks to fully explore Kings Canyon
National Park. Your first stop will be the
General Grant Tree, followed by a ride
down into the canyon along the Kings
River. We’ll make stops along the way:
Grizzly Falls, Roaring River Falls – giving you an opportunity to feel the spray and to walk along the river’s edge. At Zumwalt Meadow, learn about meadow ecology and the early Native Americans who called this region their summer home. Return to Wuksachi Lodge for a quiet evening at your leisure. (B,L) -
Day 3
After breakfast at the lodge this morning,
visit with the most famous of the ancient
giants, the General Sherman Tree. As you
stand beneath the boughs of these trees
that are centuries old, you can only marvel at the passage of time, and wonder what stories these awesome trees could tell us of our planet? Would we want to know? Back in the valley, we’ll head north, stopping for lunch on the way home. We’ll arrive in Sacramento in the early evening. (B,L)
