    Day 3

Depart after breakfast for Louisville and the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. Don’t forget your hat! The Derby is only one of 12 races run at Churchill Downs today. You’ll be there for most of them. There is roughly one race every 45 minutes to an hour. Between races you eat, drink, socialize and dish everyone else’s hat! Derby post time is in the early evening. Your seats are located on the fourth turn in the Grandstand Terrace – First floor, Section 126 or 127. Following the long but exciting day, head back to Lexington to count your winnings.

Dinner serves up a heaping helping of Southern cooking.

Tour the stately Georgian mansion and lovely grounds, then you’re off to a rural area outside Hodgenville to visit the site where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809. No trip to Kentucky would be complete without a stop at a bourbon distillery, and you’re seeing the best – Maker’s Mark near Loretto, a National Historic Landmark. After cocktails, you’ve earned a good dinner, and you’ll get it at the famed Columbia Steakhouse, a Kentucky landmark for over 60 years.
