Day 1
Begin your spring vacation to the coast with door-to-door service to the Sports Leisure office to meet your fellow travelers. Once onboard SuperCoach III, travel over Pacheco Pass to Salinas for lunch at New Awakenings, a wonderful downtown eatery. At the National Steinbeck Center, learn more about its namesake author and the stories that were a reflection of our nation during his lifetime. Continue on to San Luis Obispo and one of the most delightful inns you have ever experienced. With a grand staircase and beautiful furnishings, the Apple Farm Inn is an exquisite place to stay. A wine and cheese reception greets you upon arrival.

Day 2
Take in the views of the ocean today from Avila Beach, a quiet little town on San Luis Obispo Bay. Lunch is included at the Old Custom House, a waterfront favorite of the locals. Return to the Apple Farm mid-afternoon in time for the wine and cheese reception or relax in your beautifully-appointed room. This evening, catch the local trolley for a ride about town and follow the aroma… barbecued ribs, freshly picked produce, arts and crafts, and live entertainment… it’s San Luis Obispo’s Farmers Market. Rated as one of the best in the state, this marketplace is lots of fun for locals and visitors alike. The area is closed to all thru traffic to make room for this lively weekly event.

Day 3
Journey back in time as you visit magnificent Hearst Castle, the home of larger-than-life publisher William Randolph Hearst. The daytime tour includes the main guest house, the dining room, and the grounds. Lunch is included in the town of Cambria before checking into the Best Western Cavalier, situated on the bluffs above the Pacific in San Simeon. Tonight return to Hearst Castle for the popular evening tour. Featuring docents dressed in period costume, you will feel like you are one of Hearst’s own guests in the 1930’s. While both tours require walking up and down over 300 steps throughout the tours, it’s an awesome experience you won’t soon forget. (For those who have done the daytime tour before, you may choose to spend the morning browsing in Cambria. Let us know when you make your reservations and receive a credit of $20.)

Day 4
Today leave the central coast, traveling through the Santa Lucia Mountains to enjoy the beauty and bounty of the Paso Robles region. Paso Robles is transitioning from ranching to grape growing and vineyards are sprouting up everywhere. Enjoy lunch in Paso Robles before returning to Sacramento. Heading home through the Salinas Valley, America’s “salad bowl,” your final stop is Casa de Fruita, a true shopper’s paradise. Bring home fresh fruits and veggies along with some of its delicious edibles. Arrive in Sacramento in the early evening.

“The Rock” Featuring a cruise to Alcatraz
The sights and sounds of Alcatraz come alive during your visit to “The Rock.” Cross over the Bay Bridge and travel along the Embarcadero to the Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch at one of the area’s oldest restaurants, Scoma’s where you will have a choice on site from a limited menu, including the fresh catch of the day. Our cruise departs for Alcatraz midafternoon with time on the island for exploring on your own with the included audio tour. Return to Sacramento following your visit.
