Santa Barbara and Santa Maria by SuperCoach III

• Day 1

  Be picked up at home and taken to the Sports Leisure office by Carey Transportation where you will board SuperCoach III and be on your way to San Jose and brunch at the fabulous Hayes Mansion. Travel south down scenic Highway 101 through the Salinas Valley, “America’s Salad Bowl,” for the evening in the fertile valley of Santa Maria. The Historic Santa Maria Inn (BR)

• Day 2

  Your morning begins by touring the region of Santa Maria, through flower fields and sand dunes. Learn about the diversity of the area before lunch at the Far Western Tavern, where they serve up some of the finest Santa Maria-style BBQ. Continue to Santa Barbara and the adjoining community of Montecito, home of the rich and famous. For the next two nights your accommodations are located on one of California’s most beautiful coastlines. Your luxurious resort, located just across the boulevard from the beach, is a peaceful oasis that features 24 acres of landscaped grounds, with all rooms having either a balcony or patio. • Day 3

  Enjoy a guided tour in and around Santa Barbara this morning. Highlights include the often photographed and filmed Santa Barbara County Courthouse and the Old Santa Barbara Mission, known to many as the Queen of the Missions. Lunch is included today at cafes on the harbor popular with the locals. This afternoon, enjoy some free time for browsing along Stearn’s Wharf or catch the electric shuttle up to State Street for some shopping on El Paseo or take a quiet stroll along the beachfront. Rejoin your fellow travelers at Rodney’s for a wonderful dinner and recounting the day. (B,L,D)

• Day 4

  There is time for a stroll along the beach or around the park-like setting of the resort this morning before our late-morning departure. Drive through the gorgeous Santa Ynez Mountains to the quaint village of Solvang, which has faithfully maintained the flavor of Denmark. You will have free time for lunch and shopping before a visit to Quicksilver Miniature Horse Ranch. Continue on to San Luis Obispo and one of the most delightful inns you have ever visited. With a grand staircase and beautiful furnishings, the Apple Farm Inn is an exquisite place to rest your head. (B)

• Day 5

  Returning home, drive through the Santa Lucia Mountains and pause in Templeton, home to the Happy Acres Goat Farm. Folks are sure to fall in love with these critters during an informative presentation about the history of this family-owned operation. Continue on to Sacramento, arriving in the early evening. (L)
