• Day 1

  Carey Transportation takes you to meet SuperCoach III at our office before heading east to Reno to enjoy lunch. Heading north along Highway 395 and back into California, arrive at the outpost of Litchfield, home to the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Center. Videl and her staff will explain the important work they do here and if there’s a herd in the corral, we may see some animals being evaluated and prepared for adoption. A few miles west, Susanville’s newest accommodations are your home for the evening. With two restaurants and a casino, you decide how late to stay up tonight! Diamond Mountain Hotel & Casino (L)

• Day 2

  Explore the town of Susanville today with a local step-on guide along the way. View several of the town’s murals, visit the Lassen County Historical Museum and catch of glimpse of the town’s historic Elks Lodge. Lunch is included at the homey Sage Hen Restaurant in town prior to heading west to Chester, home of the Collins Pine Museum. Your accommodations are in Chester with dinner tonight at nearby Gamboni’s on the Peninsula. Following dinner, enjoy some “old-timey” entertainment. Best Western Rose Quartz Inn (L,D)

• Day 3

  Just northwest of Chester, Lassen Peak stands at just over 10,000 feet and is the southern most volcano of the Cascade Range stretching north to Canada. While the peak last erupted in May 1914, evidence of active volcanic activity will be all around you including hot springs, bubbling mud and sulphur pots, and steaming fumaroles. The coach will make several stops to see some of these features after you learn more about them at the new visitor’s center. Following your visit, make your way further west to the town of Redding for lunch at Rivers Restaurant. Arrive back in Sacramento in the early evening. (ECB,L)
