  • Day 1

    Depart Sacramento mid-afternoon for San Francisco. Enjoy dinner on your own at Pier 39 or Fisherman’s Wharf before checking into an airport hotel property. Rest well before a late morning Transpacific flight the following day.

    Day 2-3

    Depart for Osaka. Cross the International Date Line arriving a day later than you departed. Clear customs and immigration and meet your local English speaking guide. Enjoy a two-night stay to rest up, with an included dinner. Plaza Hotel Osaka – 2 nights (D)

    Day 4

    Breakfast is included daily, with familiar and international options. Begin your immersion into Japan with a tour of Osaka Castle.     Day 5

    Day 6

    Take a ferry to the floating “Torii,” the iconic red Shinto Gate of Itsukushima Shinto Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Try your hand at Japanese calligraphy and visit Peace Memorial Park and the A-Bomb Dome Museum. Train to Kyoto, Japan’s Cultural Capital. Dinner tonight is Korean BBQ!     Day 7

    Visit Nara, a center for culture, history and art. The impressive Todai-ji Buddhist Temple has Sika deer roaming about the grounds. Local sightseeing follows before returning to Kyoto. Both lunch and dinner are open today. Options are many and shared by your guide. (FB)

    Day 8

    Kyoto is a wonderfully eclectic mix of modernity and classical. Visit Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), and the Heian Shinto Shrine. After a sushi lunch, enjoy a performance of highly stylized dance performed by geishas. Dinner is Yakitori, assorted skewered grilled meats. (FB,L,D)

    Day 9

    Zip over to Nagoya then slow down on a scenic train ride. Visit Takayama, a quaint picturesque mountain town, and a Gassho-Zukiri Farmhouse, a thatched roof structure dating back 200 years. Dinner is highlighted by locally raised Hida beef. Best Western Hotel Takayama. (FB,D)

  • Day 10

    Walk Takayama’s historic streets to a morning market. After lunch on your own, train to Odawara and continue to Hakone, an upscale mountain region. Stay in a luxurious traditional Ryokan-style hotel. Unwind in the hot springs before a Kaiseki dinner at your hotel. Each course is a visual and culinary work of art.   • Day 11

    See Hakone National Park from all angles! Take a tranquil cruise on Lake Ashi and a cable car ride up Mt. Komagatake.     Day 12

    Today is all Tokyo! Visit the Tsukiji Market, Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace, Asakusa Kannon Temple and enjoy a Sumida River Cruise. Learn about tea ceremonies, kimono traditional dress and samurai sword play. Come together for dinner over Shabu Shabu – soup with fresh meats and vegetables. (FB,D)

A Play on the Lake, A Ride to the Sky

Head to Lake Tahoe for a fun overnighter featuring the 1960’s musical, Beehive. An exuberant jukebox celebration of women musicians from the 60’s; Beehive transports audiences on a nostalgic musical journey. The outdoor venue at Sand Harbor is perfect for a summer night of music, laughter, and of course Aqua Net-glistening coiffures! Join your fellow Sports Leisure travelers for a late morning trip to Truckee. Check into the Hampton Inn, don your best 60’s apparel (optional) before dinner at Moody’s before enjoying the show. Imagine, this venue has one of the most stunning backdrops in the world, a Lake Tahoe sunset!
After breakfast at the hotel; depart for Olympic Valley. Squaw Valley is one of the largest ski areas in the United States, and was host site of the entire 1960 Winter Olympics. A tram ride to the summit provides an aerial view of the valley, plus takes you to High Camp for lunch. Visit the Olympic Museum before returning to Sacramento, mid-afternoon.
