  • Overnight in Portland with tours designed to experience the city like a local
  • Portland Rose Festival’s Grand Floral Parade and Rose Show
  • 3 nights oceanfront at Newport’s Elizabeth Street Inn
  • Marine cruise, lighthouse and the Oregon Aquarium in/around Newport
  • Buggy ride over the sand dunes in Florence
  • Lincoln City and Tillamook
  • Day 1

Fly away on a morning flight to Portland, then hit the ground running. Lloyd Center is your first stop for lunch and a chance to enjoy the colorful sights and sweet fragrances of the Rose Society’s 129th Annual Spring Rose Show. In the afternoon, visit downtown for two very special experiences. With our expert local guide (and former Sports Leisure employee Merrill Mixer) enjoy a multi-modal look at the city by streetcar and aerial tram. Discover the flavors of Portland – tea, spirits and salts to be exact – on our exclusive Forktown Tour with samples at each stop along the way. In the evening we’ll toast a great day of touring with dinner served at the trendy restored Kennedy School. Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport (D)

  • Day 2

The Grand Floral Parade is both the Rose Festival and Portland’s premier event. Don’t worry about the city’s frequent rainfall. You’ll view the parade from reserved seating inside Memorial Coliseum with “creature comforts” (restrooms and concessions) only steps away. As a special treat, the Queen’s Coronation precedes the parade. Oregon’s Capital City of Salem is your next stop for lunch (McGrath’s Fish House) and a whirl around the historic carousel. Then you’re bound for the coastal community of Newport where quaint accommodations boast all ocean-view rooms! Elizabeth Street Inn – 3 nights (FB,L,D)

  • Day 3

Newport has so much to offer! Take an educational marine cruise on the bay, to learn how crab pots work, and to meet some of the creatures who call Newport Harbor home. Shop and enjoy lunch on the wharf, then have “dinner with the creatures” at the Oregon Aquarium, a truly unique experience. Of course there will be leisure time for a walk along the beach! (B,D)

  • Day 4

Your destination today is just south of the coastal town of Florence for a buggy ride on the giant dunes. You’ll have a choice of a scenic or a more adventurous ride. For lunch, choose from one of the quaint eateries on the old waterfront in Florence. No visit to the coast would be complete without a trip to a lighthouse, and historic Yaquina Head, c. 1868, fits the bill just north of Newport. (B,D)

  • Day 5

Take a scenic drive up the coast this morning to Lincoln City for lunch and a bit of sightseeing. In nearby Tillamook, the Blue Heron French Cheese Company is a popular and tasty stop to take home a souvenir or two of the dairy country. Return to Portland in the late afternoon for your return flight. (B,L)

24th Annual Spring Training in Arizona

Each spring the baseball fans in our midst make a pilgrimage to Arizona, where the “Boys of Summer” get ready for the season. We’ll catch a game every afternoon or evening, a total of 5 games in all. Generally, the Giants are the first priority and the A’s second. The schedules for the Cactus League in Spring Training are not finalized and announced until sometime in November/December, and those registered will be sent the schedule just as soon as it is finalized.

Each departure features Sunday Brunch at the Wrigley Mansion, and a dinner at Rustler’s Roost (a Sports Leisure tradition). The centrally located Marriott Hotel we call home provides a great buffet breakfast each morning. Tickets for the games are almost always located in the shade. You’ll see how important this tiny feature is once we get to Arizona and you see thousands of people unwilling to take their seats for the game because they are in the sun!

By registering early, you secure your space, guarantee your tickets and save a few dollars. We only purchase a few tickets over the number of people reserved when they become available, so those who wait risk getting shut out. Plus, this tour has sold out the last two years (hence the second departure this season). This is a “bucket list” item for many, and lots of fans repeat this trip on a regular basis. See you in Arizona!
