Day 2
Join us for a special behind-the-scenes
tour of the festival grounds and theaters this morning. Your guide is always happy to share information about the new season and, in fact, may be a familiar face in one of the upcoming performances you are here to see! After lunch at your leisure, your first show is considered Shakespeare’s dramatic classic, Hamlet. In Denmark, a king is dead. His brother, Claudius, has snatched the throne and the widowed queen. Life goes on – for everyone but Prince Hamlet who is haunted by the ghost of his father and is told to avenge his murder. Following dinner at your leisure enjoy a staged performance of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. Mrs. Bennet will stop at nothing to obtain advantageous matches for her five middle-class daughters. Elizabeth, however, as the witty and outspoken child, might be more difficult to marry. Can Elizabeth’s dislike of the eligible Mr. Darcy be overcome? (ECB,L) -
Day 3
Enjoy a late morning trip to historic Jacksonville with lunch included at the Jacksonville Inn. After some time to browse the shops, return to Ashland for an optional matinee performance of the romantic comedy, She Loves Me. Based on the play that also inspired the film, You’ve Got Mail, the story concerns two anonymous pen pals who are very much in love. Little do they know that by day they are quarreling clerks in the same shop who can’t stand each other! The cost of this optional show is $55. This
evening, our final performance is another romantic comedy, Twelfth Night. Both Orsino and Olivia’s households have love on the brain. When Viola, a shipwrecked castaway, disguises herself as a boy and finds work as Orsino’s servant, she becomes entangled in an awkward love triangle in a story that ends happily for (almost) everyone. Day 4
Heading home today, pause in the small community of Weed to visit the town’s pride and joy, the Lumber Museum. Learn about the role that big timber played in the founding of the community and then enjoy lunch at String’s Pasta Café in the town of Mount Shasta. Arrive back in Sacramento in the late afternoon where cars from Carey Transportation will be waiting for you. (ECB,L)
