Day 1
A flight to Detroit begins your Two-Nation Vacation, followed by a drive to Michigan’s “Little Bavaria,” the scenic village of Frankenmuth. There the townsfolk will say “willkommen” with their famous all-you-can-eat German-style dinner. Bavarian Inn Lodge (D)
-
Day 2
Learn about the history of Frankenmuth on a tour featuring stops at the St. Lorenz Church and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland where it’s always yuletide. The drive to Mackinaw City brings you to the Lake Huron shore and the short ferry ride to Mackinac Island, a place lost in time. Get out your walking shoes because there are no motor vehicles allowed on the island – they might scare the horses! Your historic hotel features nearly all waterfront rooms. Chippewa Hotel – 2 nights (B,L)
-
Day 3
Tour the island by horse and carriage and delight in sights from the historic old Stone Church to the awesome Straits of Mackinac Bridge, a modern technological wonder. Your carriage’s final stop is at the Grand Hotel, one of the finest and last remaining examples of Victorian-era waterfront resorts. Following a superb lunch in the Grand Dining Room, enjoy the hotel and grounds (How about a rock on the longest front porch in America?) before taking the short stroll back into town. Tonight you may like to view “Somewhere In Time,” the movie that made the island known to modern audiences. (B,L)
-
Day 4
A late morning ferry takes you back to the mainland for the drive to the border. You’ll stop just short of Canada in Pt. Huron, Michigan, where your waterside hotel is located on the St. Clair River. Enjoy dinner in the shadow of the Blue Water International Bridge. Thomas Edison Inn (B,D)
-
Day 5
A drive across southern Ontario brings you to one of the natural wonders of the world, Niagara Falls. Learn the legends of the falls at the IMAX Theatre production of Niagara: Miracles, Myths and Magic. Your hotel accommodations are the area’s finest, offering unrestricted views of the falls from every room. Don’t miss the evening lights! Sheraton Fallsview – 2 nights (B,L)
-
Day 6
Local touring includes the best way to see Niagara: A ride aboard the famous Maid of the Mist. Don’t worry. Raincoats are provided! Afternoon free time is provided for personal exploration. In the evening, say farewell to Canada with the uproariously funny musical dinner theatre revue, Oh Canada, Eh? (B,D)
-
Day 7
Nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake is a remarkably well-preserved community which served as the capital of Upper Canada in the late 1700s. Today, it boasts a decidedly British flair, perfect for picking up a last souvenir or having a spot of tea. Returning south of the border, Buffalo is your gateway for the return flight to California.
