Modernism from the National Gallery of Art

From The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the de Young is the exclusive venue for this exhibit featuring works by Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg among others. Featuring nearly 50 pieces from the end of World War II through the end of the century, this is the first time these works have been shown outside the D.C. area. An audio guide is included for your enjoyment. In the afternoon, a shuttle will be available to the Legion of Honor with option to visit the special “Intimate Impressionism” exhibit (surcharge of $11 at the door.) Lunch is on your own at either of the museum cafes.

Serving as a military post under Spain Mexico, and the United States from 1776-1994, the Presidio is now a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. With Craig Smith as local guide, learn the history, tour the grounds, and see the changes now in place for current use of this historic site. After an included lunch at the Presidio Golf Course Café, we conclude the day with a stop at the Palace of Fine Arts and Lucas Arts Headquarters.
